Faculty Details
Sara MacDowell, PT, DPT has many years of specialized clinical experience with patients who have vestibular and/or facial nerve disorders. Dr. MacDowell is currently an adjunct faculty at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). She also participates in instruction through the otolaryngology residency program to educate new medical residents about vestibular rehabilitation. Along with teaching, Dr. MacDowell also facilitates research through LSUHSC with research projects including optokinetic stimulation and the role of anxiety and dizziness in self-reported imbalance. Dr. MacDowell practices in a comprehensive neurotology clinic alongside audiologists and neurotologists. Her primary practice is an outpatient based vestibular therapy treatment center, but also frequently consults at the acute care hospital for post-operative vestibular patients as well as dizzy patients admitted through the ER.
Dr. MacDowell graduated with a doctorate in physical therapy from Washington University and has completed the competency certification in “Vestibular Rehabilitation” and “Vestibular Function Tests: Interpretation and Application to Rehabilitation” offered by Dr. Herdman. Dr. MacDowell is currently a board member of the APTA Vestibular Special Interest Group and has presented several continuing education lectures on Vestibular Rehabilitation.
